2020 Pen World Reader’s Choice Nominee!

Pjotr by Rein van der Mast's 'Meteor' is nominated for the 2020 Pen World Reader’s Choice!

Last night Rein received: "Established in 1994, the Readers’ Choice Awards is the only international awards program for the pen industry and is based on the votes of PEN WORLD readers. A panel of long-time PEN WORLD readers served as judges, carefully selecting the nominees from a long list of pens featured in the magazine throughout 2019. There are twelve different categories of recognition and five nominees within each category.

Readers cast their votes from the official ballot in the April 2020 issue of PEN WORLD, and voting continues through June 15, 2020. We will notify winners in July and will feature the winners in the August issue of PW. It has not yet been determined where we will present awards this year.

It is a privilege and an honor for PEN WORLD to applaud your artistry and your accomplishments through the Readers’ Choice Awards."

The personal touch

One of the advantages of 3D printing over conventional manufacturing techniques is in personalization. Below are two examble of the 'Meteor' Pure +

Again in Pen World magazine

For the second time I feel honored with a comprehensive editorial article in Pen World magazine, world's leading journal for fountain pen collectors. The text, written by Reinhard Kargl, perfectly reflects the potential of 3D printing with respect to high quality fountain pens.

The first time was in 2013, an article written by former editor in chief Laura Chandler, after the release of world's first 3D printed, titanium fountain pen.

Where old and new techniques come together

Old and new techniques come together in this oil painting made by Felice Hanssen.

Recently Rein van der Mast was portrayed, as a present from his lovely girlfriend Ellen. Of course, there is the merlot red ‘Meteor’ in Rein's right hand, which is 3D printed in titanium and stainless steel.

NEW Pure+ and British Racing Green

Because of several requests received as well as many positive responses to social media inquiries, now there are two additional versions of the 'Meteor': 'Pure+' and 'British Racing Green' !

'Pure+' has a polished shaft and 'British Racing Green' is an addition to the red and blue versions of this unique 3D printed metal pen.

The 'Meteor' is now available

DORDRECHT, The Netherlands – At the Tilburg Penshow 2018 Rein van der Mast showed a prototype of his latest design: the 'Meteor'. It includes the world's first and only 3D printed fountain pen nib (solid titanium). The section, barrel, cap en clip are 3D printed (additively manufactured) in metal (solid titanium and stainless steel).

Next to the basic version, called 'Pure', there is a polished and coloured version ('Merlot Red' and 'Royal Blue'). Only 200 pieces will be made (limited edition).

Now this pen is available!

Introducing the TypeONE by 3Dimensions

ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands – Rein van der Mast introduces the TypeONE, an affordable 3D printed fountain pen that is equipped with the world’s first 3D printed titanium nib.

The pen is brought to the market by 3Dimensions: a partnership of Dennis van de Graaf, owner of the renowned fountain pen shop La Couronne du Comte, Bart Koster, owner of Promo2000 and pen distributor, and Rein van der Mast, creator of the world's first 3D printed fountain pen (2013) and nib (2016).

18K Solid Gold 3D Printed Fountain Pen & Nib

DORDRECHT, The Netherlands – The Dutch designer and technologist Rein van der Mast is disrupting how fountain pens are made. Instead of relying on proven technology, in 2013 he started 3D printing titanium fountain pens and nibs. Today he started 3D printing both in 18K solid yellow and white gold.

There is the Spica Virginis, his latest design, resembling an ear of grain and named after the brightest star in the constellation Virgo, where in ancient drawings the virgin holds a bundle of grain ears. In 18K yellow gold the color perfectly matches the color of grain.

The pen is also available in 18K solid white gold. Van der Mast: “This type of white gold is developed for 3D printing, selective laser melting in particular. It is very white, and more important, it is very hard, eliminating the need for a rhodium coating.” He emphasizes that this is particularly useful for nibs. Van der Mast is the only one in the world 3D printing nibs and holds a patent application on it.

Van der Mast: “For people who prefer the lightness of titanium, which is less than 1/3 of the density of gold, we offer our titanium version plated with a thick layer of 24K gold with a tiny amount of cobalt for better wear resistance.”

The Spica Virginis is exclusively available at La Couronne du Comte.
